Just one more Wednesday away from Free Denver B-cycle days! Se press release below

Thanks to sponsorship from Wells Fargo, Denver B-cycle and Boulder B-cycle will waive the daily membership fee for anyone who wants to use the bike-sharing system during "Wells Fargo Wednesdays" on June 6, 13 and 20.

Through the Wells Fargo Wednesday sponsorship, riders can take advantage of a free 24-hour membership (normally $8 in Denver and $5 in Boulder), that allows them to use the bikes for 30 minutes or less. Longer rides incur standard usage fees. Additionally, anyone who takes advantage of "Wells Fargo Wednesdays" will be able to buy an annual B-cycle membership at a discounted rate. Information about the program can be found at the bike kiosk's and on the B-cycle website at http://denver.bcycle.com/.

"Experience from our growing membership base suggests that trying the bike sharing system means liking the bike sharing system," said Parry Burnap, executive director of Denver Bike Sharing. "These free days will make it a snap to try the system and we appreciate the support from Wells Fargo Bank to expose the concept to more riders. This is a great way for people to join in the celebration of Bike To Work Month and get their riding legs ready for Bike to Work Day on June 27."

Cliff notes to the Press Release
Boulder racing drops use of ACA timing system for their future events

First off, we'd like to thank you for your patience this week while the ACA worked through finalizing the results from Saturday and Sunday's events. Concerning last week’s Superior Morgul we’d like to take a moment to discuss the history and future of Without Limits/Boulder Racing cycling events. Boulder Racing was founded in 1999 with the mission of providing a quality race experience for all rider levels both on the road and in cyclocross. In similar respects, Without Limits Productions was established in 2007 to elevate the experience in the Colorado triathlon scene. In 2009, however, Without Limits saw a gap of quality chip-timing in the cyclocross world, and ventured to produce the first CYCLO X (Chip Timed) Event in December. Most of you have probably already forgotten the blistering cold 5 degree weather and 12 inches of snow, but what you can't forget is Colorado's first chip timed event with lap splits for all racers, 100% chip reads, and the announcer calling your name as you approached the finish line. To boot, we delivered quick and accurate results. On Nov 21st, 2011, we came through again in the howling winds of Union Reservoir. That day saw 80% race day registrations, lap split data, and for the first time, results online 15min after your finish. After that winter, Without Limits and Boulder Racing merged to bring you a company of passionate athletes dedicated to innovative experiences and quality race execution that we ourselves hope for and demand.

In 2011, the governing body chip timing era was ushered in. We all knew this would take patience and practice to implement at races both small and large. We worked with the governing bodies on the implementation of their timing system at our events. However, during that period of time we've let you down in one major area. It's been 3 years since you've experienced flawless chip timing service as you did on that snowy day. Our error has been in surrendering a significant portion of event logistics to the governing body all the while knowing what is truly possible in the world of event timing. How do we know? Simple... we're implementing it at our other events around the nation.

ACA releases statement on Chip Timing System

News Item:

From ACA website

Everyone involved with the Superior Morgul Classic appreciates the participation and enthusiasm from our athletes and families over the weekend.

As many of you know, we are still working to create accurate results from the weekend. Overall Omnium results cannot be completed until this has happened.

Of course, the notion in the racing community is that "The chips system was in use, the results should be perfect." The reality is that no scoring system can create perfect results if the event's registration is not accurate. This simple concept defines the situation in which we find ourselves. We have a world class timing system that functions at a very high level. We do not have world class data being inputted into this system.

When this happens, especially at an event that had more than 1,700 athletes in 20+ categories, creating results reverts largely to hand scoring. And this takes time.

Other questions have been:

1. Why were the Superior time trial results so fast? Answer: the event was pre-registration only, and our officials could rely on the results generated by the timing company.

2. Why do we need bib numbers if we have chips? Answer: Chip data includes info on the rider as it relates to the ACA database. It does NOT include category data, as the majority of our athletes can choose one of multiple categories on race day. The bib number is linked to the start list for a particular event, and therefore imperative for scoring. Bib numbers are also the best form of identification in event of an accident during a race.

3. Why do we have a timing system? Answer: The timing system was purchased in order to provide deep, accurate, and timely scoring for all categories (in a larger effort to provide results and a racing experience that is similar to running, triathlon, or mountain bike races). Please note that all these types of events are much simpler to score than a road race or criterium. As everyone knows, this has not been an easy implementation, and I apologize for the confusion that is out there.

Cycling Soul announced last night one of their big events planned in 2012 and that is the Living the Ride August 26 at the Grand Hyatt. It will be an evening with Jim Ochowicz and many of the former 7-11 Team including Davis Phinney and the BMC team including Davis's son Taylor. This will be a rare opportunity to meet Davis and his team at the same venue has Taylor and his team. Jim will also be signing his book, Team 7-Eleven. There will be a panel like discussion, drinks and a 4 course meal prepared by Top Chef, Hosea Rosenberg. Tickets go on sale this Saturday and the cost is $250. This event is expected to sell out and while some may feel the price is high I too strongly believe it will sell out quickly.
