Oct 5th is International Bike and Walk to School Day

News Item:

Mark your calendar and tell your kids that Oct 5th is International Walk & Bike to School Day. Start now! Make a plan and ride with your child to school and for the more ambitious parent, organize a "bike train". A bike train is when you select route where you ride to school and slowly pick up other kids who might not have a parent who can ride with them and by the time you have reached the school you might have as many as 20 kids riding in this train with you. Want help finding what is going on at your child's school or at least who to contact, see this. If your excuse is that it's too dangerous to ride with your child to school then maybe it's time you contacted your school district on getting a Safe Routes to Schools grant going.

Commuting Tip #2 Don't Race your Ride

News Item:

It's about the time all the leaves have come out on the trees when the "I'm going to be the next Lance Armstrongs" come out on the trails (heaven forbid they ride on the road). Their guns are blazing as they fly down the trail on their way to work. Then around the water cooler they brag about their 7 mile commuter, how they cut 30 seconds off of their ride from the day before and complain about the runners on the trail. Commuting by bike is not a race! Let's all say it together, commuting by bike is not a race. Amen.
