B360 2009 - 12th Annual Circle Boulder By Bicycle

The 12th Annual 2009 B360 will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2009 from 3 to 4 p.m. (also a 2:30 p.m. start if you want extra time) at Scott Carpenter Park, just north of the intersection of 30th Street and Colorado Avenue. This free, fun ride will go down RAIN or SHINE and as always prizes and refreshments will be available!

Front Range Climbing Grades

  • Flagstaff - from Gregory Canyon trailhead turn off at end of Baseline. The first 5 miles have an average grade of 7.4% with a .3 mile section just below Lost Gulch Overlook at 14%. The first .5 mile above Gregory Canyon averages 10%, the 3.5 miles from Gregory Canyon to the Ampitheater turnoff averages 6.5, and the next two miles to the exit from the Mountain Park averages 10%.
  • Sunshine Canyon - From the end of Mapleton (Mapleton Avenue turns into Sunshine Canyon). The first 4.5 miles have an average grade of 6.7% with short stretchos up to 14%.
  • Lee Hill/Olde Stage Rds - West on Lee Hill from Broadway. The climb up Olde Stage features about an 8% average grade. The first mile of Lee Hill beyond the Olde Stage turn-off is 11%.
  • Lefthand Canyon - From the turn off on US-36 and Lefthand Canyon to Ward. The first 16.5 miles average 4% grade, but the last 1.5 mile climb to Ward is 10%.

Denver gets 27% increase in bike lanes from stimulus

News Item: 

Denver area cyclist will get any where from 4-6 more miles of bike lanes increasing the number of bike lane miles to almost 30. Through the government stimulus package Denver will receive $250,000. The city was already committed to adding 6 more miles of bike lanes in 2009 and now with this additional funding the mayor hopes to increase bike commuting by 10% by 2018.

The Rocky Mountain Bicycle Show has opened registration to the
entire cycling industry. In keeping with the planned evolution of the
show, RMBS/09 will include all areas of the cycling industry while
highlighting the custom framebuilders in the Framebuilder’s Showcase.
Both an industry and consumer show, RMBS/09 offers the opportunity to
display cycling related products, sell them, all for hundreds if not
thousands of dollars below most trade show rates. RMBS/09 will also
feature the amazing collection of bicycle art from world renowned
collector Howie Cohen, a History of the Bicycle display designed by
vintage/classic guru Mike Kone, a weekend ArtBike! Kids Corner, free 2
oz samples of beer from Colorado’s best microbrews, and Bicycle
Colorado’s Bicycle Rodeo.

Join us on the Friday evening before the show for ArtBike! Presents
RMBS Rock Out! Expect live music, benefit raffles, and much more. On
the Saturday evening of the show, RMBS will present the Boulder 6, a
night of six days racing, hosted by Boulder Indoor Cycling. Only 150
tickets will be sold to this night of track racing, free beer and food.

Fiestaval Bike Demo Day - May 16th

The Sports Garage is putting on a bike demo day this Saturday. The event supports the Valmont Bike Park so check it out if you get a chance!

Sports Garage presents Fiestaval Bike Demo Day on Saturday May 16, 10 a.m. The event supports the Valmont Bike Park and is located just north of Gateway Fun Park on Hwy 36. Cost of the event is free but donation collection stations will be located throughout the site.
