Valmont Bike Park celebrates one-year anniversary

The City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of the grand opening of Valmont Bike Park. The park, located at the corner of Valmont and Airport roads, is a 42-acre, natural-surface facility, recognized as the largest urban bike park open free to the public and offers multiple disciplines for all ages and abilities. The grand opening of Valmont Bike Park occurred on June 11, 2011, at which more than 2,500 children and adults enjoyed a ribbon-cutting ceremony, vendor expo, food, fun and rides on the many park amenities and features.

A More Mature Taylor Phinney Prepares for the London Olympics

Taylor Phinney was admittedly a wide-eyed 18-year-old "kid" who soaked up every ounce of his first Olympic experience four years ago in Beijing.

"Probably the biggest distraction for me was having the U.S. women's gymnastic team staying above me," Phinney recalled with a laugh during a press conference Wednesday at Skratch Labs on Pearl Street.

A more mature and focused Phinney -- who turns 22 next week and is still the youngest member of the American men's road cycling team -- is gearing up for a whole new experience in London.

Boulder has some wonderful trails for recreational riding or commuting to your destinations but how many times have you wished, "I wish this trail would connect to that trail so I can avoid the road". Well I go through that thought process all the time and I'm not alone. There is growing strong support to create some new segments of trails that would connect many other trails to help create a ring trail around Boulder.

Skratch Labs host training Camp for Christian Vande Velde

Skratch Labs of Boulder and their cycling evangelist Allen Lim hosted a training camp for Christian Vande Velde as he prepares for the Tour de France this summer. Attendees were, Evelyn Stevens (Boulder), Dave Zabriskie, Tim Johnson and Taylor Phinney. When seeing such great names show up to work with innovative coaches like Allen once again solidifies why Boulder & Colorado are such a great place for the cycling enthusiast!

After a beautiful ride up on the Peak to Peak Highway, George Thomas of Over the Top Radio and 303Cycling caught up with Christian and talked not about "the plan" or the tour, etc but what is it like to be a demanding athlete AND a parent at the same time.
