Recently Idaho is attempting to change the laws around having cyclist being treated as equals to cars at stop signs allowing cyclist to treat stop signs like yield signs. Few seem to be taking up this battle here in Colorado but in the west sides are being drawn. A west coast website, honorthestop.org is trying to get cyclist to obey the law largely out of cyclist safety. There are many arguments on both sides, some say cyclist have been treating stop signs like yield signs for years so just make it legal and others say giving cyclist the right to yield and not cars is dangerous and sends a terrible message to the car drivers. Some countries have similar laws for example in Germany at many smaller intersections they have no stop or yield signs, the law is basically the one to the right has the right-of-way. This does not single out cyclist or cars, it applies to all and it seems to work. Many more articles on this debate can be found on at the bottom of the page of this article on BikePortland.org

Some cities are lucky if they even have a bike lane or two or more than 1 cycling club but not our area, we have more than just raw numbers we have diversity. Check out what is and has happened in cycling in the past few weeks that is left of the norm.

Bike Polo. I've read about this is common in urban areas with cig smoking fixes get together and play up to do this in Lyons, in winter on grass? No Way... WRONG. This past weekend's Bike Polo appeared to be a huge success, they even had teams from out of state to show up and brave the snow!
The Bicycle Safety Bill passed the Colorado Senate a few weeks ago and now it is on to the Colorado House Transportation Committee. Rep. Michael Merrifield is leading the effort as the House Sponsor. This action should be taking place the week of March 16th, but don't wait until the 16th to make your voice heard, act today.
My heart goes out those living on the north side of Hwy 66, how can you ride in a county filled with so much hate from elected officials? Apparently the sheriff of Larimer County recently testified against the new proposed Colorado Senate Bill 148 which focuses on bicycle safety.
I'm sooo tired of the cold and the winds but seeing post from the Western Slope Style helps gives me hope that spring IS just around the corner. I think I will go put on my new 17T on my single speed MTB now and hunt for that ground hog!
