“Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day” at Valmont Bike Park to be held Oct. 6

The City of Boulder’s Parks and Recreation Department will partner with Avid4 Adventure to host “Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day,” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, at Valmont Bike Park (Valmont and Airport roads).

This free family event features mountain bike instruction by expert Avid4 Adventure staff. Boulder’s event is part of the global eighth annual “Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day,” initiated by the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) and as part of the Parks and Recreation Department’s partnership with Let’s Move!—a campaign dedicated to solving the problem of obesity within a generation.

“We’re pleased to partner with Avid4 Adventure and IMBA to bring this free, worldwide celebration of mountain biking to youth and adults at Valmont Bike Park,” said Kirk Kincannon, director of Boulder Parks and Recreation. “This event is a perfect fit for the Parks and Recreation Department’s commitment to providing opportunities for families to get and stay fit as part of our Let’s Move! campaign partnership.”

“Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day” is an easy way to introduce children to a fun, outdoor activity. Kids and parents are invited to participate together in free, 45-minute instructional ride clinics at the 42-acre Valmont Bike Park. Avid4 Adventure’s expert instructors will conduct the clinics every 45 minutes between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The event will be held rain or shine, and online registration is required at http://www.avid4.com/valmont-bike-park-programs/mountain-bike-day/. Participants are asked to bring bicycles, helmets and water.

Community Cycles, Boulder's non-profit bike shop, will accept donated bikes at Valmont Bike Park on Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day. Bikes are welcome to be dropped off in any condition and they will be reused in Community Cycles programs, such as the Kids Holiday Bike Give-Away. For more information about Community Cycles, visit www.communitycycles.org.

To celebrate the international aspect of “Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day,” Valmont Bike Park is partnering with a bike park in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Both parks will host youth cycling events on the same day that encourage kids and families to experience the fun of mountain biking. Each park will post photos and stories on their respective Facebook accounts to show the universal joy and excitement that cycling brings to both sides of the globe.

Last year, more than 80 kids registered and participated in the free mountain biking clinics offered by Avid4 Adventure at Valmont Bike Park.

Parking is limited at Valmont Bike Park; participants should consider bicycling to the event. Visit www.ValmontBikePark.org for more information on directions and parking.

Online pre-registration is required to participate in free instructional clinics. Visit http://www.avid4.com/valmont-bike-park-programs/mountain-bike-day/ to register. For more information on Valmont Bike Park, visit www.ValmontBikePark.org.
