Ride 2 Recovery’s Honor Ride Denver July 6th

Ride 2 Recovery will be holding an Honor Ride in Denver on July 6th, 2013.

Ride 2 Recovery is a 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to improve the health and wellness of healing heroes through mental and physical rehabilitation programs that feature cycling as the core activity. Honor Rides raise awareness and are the funding arm for Ride 2 Recovery and give the public the opportunity to ride with healing heroes and enlisted military on a non-competitive, fun ride. Participants can choose the distance they prefer, 15, 27 or 61 miles.

The funds raised through Ride 2 Recovery support individual and group outdoor cycling programs and Indoor Spinning Recovery Labs at Military and VA locations throughout the US, as well as local rides for healing heroes, all aimed at helping injured veterans overcome obstacle they face as part of their rehabilitation. Cycling has proven to be a catalyst in the recovery process by providing a new physical challenge while concurrently helping to cope with the mental challenges of rehabilitation.

Ride 2 Recovery has proven to be a highly effective form of peer-to-peer therapy, combating the effects of not just the physical wounds of injured service members, but also invisible wounds. R2R's approach is simple yet effective: bring injured service members together and challenge them to ride a bicycle. We create the safe environment that allows them to connect with their peers, discussing issues they may be struggling with, while at the same time challenging them with what may be a daunting physical task, amplifying their resiliency and perseverance. We know our approach works, as is evidenced by the countless success stories of those who have overcome their injuries with the help of R2R.

Ride 2 Recovery has Project HERO locations setup at every Warrior Transition Unit in the country, and also a handful of VA's. Project HERO stands for Healing Exercise Rehabilitation Opportunity, and this is our initiative that allows for wounded and active service members to take part in our program 365 days a year. We have regional staff that oversee these locations and collaborate with military and civilian command on and off post. Many times, individuals are referred to us and we now have qualified staff in place to see to it that their needs are met in a timely manner.
Participants pay a registration fee of $75. All funds raised go to support Ride 2 Recovery programs. R2R has one of the highest percentages of funds going back to its programs, with over 90% going back to help healing heroes.
