Mark your calendar and tell your kids that Oct 7th is International Walk & Bike to School Day. Start now! Make a plan and ride with your child to school and for the more ambitious parent, organize a "bike train". A bike train is when you select route where you ride to school and slowly pick up other kids who might not have a parent who can ride with them and by the time you have reached the school you might have as many as 20 kids riding in this train with you. Today at Heatherwood Elementary I saw 1 train that was at least 15 kids long with a few parents in it. And if your excuse is that it's too dangerous to ride with your child to school then maybe it's time you contacted your school district on getting a Safe Routes to Schools grant going.
