Time to consider getting that USA Cycling license

News Item:

Every year many cyclist forget about that "silent" set of races in the Front Range sanctioned by USA Cycling, these are the Collegiate Tour. Maybe because many think that these races are only for college teams which is not true. If you are one of those guys who want to race in a field isn't reaching it max limit size or if you are looking for some real race experience without the crowds then maybe you should seriously considering trying some of these races out. One day licenses are $10 and full license is $60 so you do the math and decide. Maybe some day soon you may just have to buy 1 license for all your racing needs if the ACA became a local Association under USA Cycling. We at 303cycling got to interview Steve Johnson on this topic so stay tuned to that one.

UNC is ready for the 2010 season

News Item:

From the UNC Cycling team....

The 2010 collegiate cycling schedule has been released, and the University of Northern Colorado cycling team is eagerly anticipating the upcoming race season. With a similar schedule to last year, we are looking forward to improving on our results from a year ago. In the 2009 season, we enjoyed some solid performances which included wins by David Leonard in the men’s B Air Force road race, A.J. Turner in the men’s C Denver University crit, and Ben Norris in the men’s C Fort Lewis and Colorado College crits. We also earned some hardware at the RMCCC finals last year with A.J. accumulating the most total points on the season for men’s C in Division II and Liz Martin earning the same title for women’s B. Additionally, we sent Alex Lewis to nationals in Fort Collins where he represented us well and finished a respectable 16th in a tough road race.

Have you been involved in a close call?

Mountain Biking at Eldora?

News Item:

Last week we reported on how Eldora is seeking input to their Master Plan and thanks to Mike Barrow and others at the BMA, they attended some of these events and provided some information to the story of riding at Eldora someday. This is one of the ways BMA are helping riders!

Eldora Mountain Resort is in the process of planning out their next decade and BMA is pushing to get some great summer use out of our favorite local winter ski resort!

Because of the ski area sits on USFS land, Eldora is required to have a master plan and periodically update it.

There will also be improvement to the light controls that at the moment rarely every work for cyclist forcing them to run a red light or wait for a car to arrive.

City of Boulder - Driven to Drive Less

News Item:

The City of Boulder recently sent out an RFP - "Driven to Drive Less." The goals of which are "to stimulate long term travel behavior change in participants and to creatively demonstrate to the general public the ability of Boulder residents to live car free or car lite."

While you should read the RFP for yourself, here are some of the examples given to perspective marketing firms:

A possibility that City Staff has considered for this task includes a city wide casting call for participants modeled after popular reality shows like “Survivor” or the “Greatest Job in the World,"

As the CDOT Scope of Work indicates, possibilities presented by City Staff include paying a nominal amount of cash to participants each day, giving more significant grand prizes for “winners” from each tier, or providing gifts/discounts from sponsors for participating or completing special “game show” type challenges.

Colorado Cycling nonprofit Organizations

News Item:

It's tax season for those who do not procrastinate and that is very obvious from watching the commercials during the Olympics this year. Need some tax relief and need/or would like to do some donations to help out your taxes for next year? Below is a list in progress of non-profit cycling organizations who are not only good places to donate but also could provide you with some tax relief in doing so. Special thanks to BikeDenver.org for helping with this list!

This list is by far incomplete, a full list of all cycling related non-profits would probably be 4 times the size. If you know of one please add it in the comments section to this story.
