Bike Insight -- a Ride for the Blind

A University of Colorado student is launching a new nonprofit organization called Bike Insight, which pairs blind people with sighted partners for tandem bike riding.

Founder Jake Ainciart, a CU senior, is hoping to get the organization operational by mid-May.

"There's something very valuable about being on a bike and powering yourself," Ainciart said. "After talking to some of the blind students I've spoken with, they've said it's one of the more fun ways to get out and enjoy the world."

Bike Insight has incorporated as a nonprofit but is working to finalize its board of directors to become tax-exempt for donations. Ainciart and the other board members are raising money with the goal of purchasing 10 tandem bikes for the first season, as well as other equipment, such as helmets and safety vests.

Boulder City Council Changes Mind on Mountain Bikes

On Wednesday, March 30th, Boulder Council Members voted to continue the ban on mountain bikes in the West TSA. In the most shocking news since this whole process started, the Boulder City Council decided, under pressure, to reverse their stance and open the illegal trail that Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) rangers discovered on March 19. The trail had been immediately closed upon discovery but starting next week OSMP rangers will open the trail backup for mountain bikes only.

A Boulder City Council member who wanted to remain nameless said "We were getting a lot of pressure from mountain bikers so we decided to keep the illegal trail open. The trail is already in place so it seemed like the right thing to do."

A BMA member was quoted as saying "Not exactly the out come we wanted but its a new trail for mountain biking so we will take it. I am really glad that the City Council eased their decision."

The BMA will be hosting a trail work day for the new trail in the next couple of weeks. 303Cycling will be updating their calendar with the date of the work day.

OSMP decided to keep the name of the trail as The Angry Ranger Trail.

Rapid growth pushes apparel-maker to 8,800-square-foot office space

DENVER - March 31, 2011 - Cycling apparel manufacturer Primal Wear is moving its headquarters into an 8,800-square-foot space in Denver this month. The move, which will occur over the course of a few weeks and be finished in early April, will not disrupt normal business operations.

"Primal has seen remarkable growth over the past few years with the expansion of our custom apparel division and our dedication to growing the Primal brand," said Dave Edwards, founder and CEO of Primal. "Refocusing our efforts has resulted in an average of 40% growth year to year over the last three years."

This growth has allowed Primal to hire 10 additional employees in the last year, with the expansion of the sales, design, and warehouse departments. To accommodate additional growth, Primal's new two-level facility is nearly double the current space. This will allow for continued growth over the next 5-10 years. The new offices are approximately one mile from the old location, and are located on the Cherry Creek Trail System, providing excellent ride-up access to the facility for both employees and customers.
