Make sure you check the rental before you ride

I appreciate the Velodrome providing the rentals for free. Now having said that make sure you check the rental out well before you ride it. Have you noticed all of the crash marks on the track? Most have been made on the rentals and one of the nice Fuji's has some very jacked up handle bars and who knows what else is going on with some of them! At first I was thinking I was just going to use the rentals until I got serious but now I'm thinking I will purchase my own bike regardless out of safety. I'm sure they do their best to make sure the bikes are safe but I'm going to play it safe.

Make sure you check the rental before you ride

Are you sure that you are justified in blaming the rental bikes for the crashes and crash marks? In other words, could you let us know what the specific problems are with the rental bikes?
I ride a (non-rental) Fuji Pro myself. Yes, I would prefer a bike with different specs (head angle, rake ad trail) but I do not see that the bikes dimensions or components would be a reason for a crash.
So again, I would love to hear from you the specifics of the Fuji rental bikes that in your mind result in crashes.
BTW I saw only one (minor) crash (a slide). It was on a "high level" track bike (not a Fuji). The crash was caused by an experienced rider error by accelerating hard from an almost stand still on the high banking. The rider him self said that he "screwed up". No real harm was done except a slide mark on the track and the rider will need to get new cycling shorts.

Crashes

I have personally not seen any crashes. I have seen many close calls though. The crashes I have heard about had nothing to do with the rental bikes and to tell you the truth all the crashes happened on personally owned bikes.

The biggest factor I have seen in crashes happening is a huge variety in abilities. You have Pro 1 2 guys out there with 4s. Not a good combination.
