I survived! After spending nearly 2.5 hrs at Boulder Center for Sports Medicine I walked out reassuring what I kind of already knew, KEEP THE DAY JOB! Jokes aside, the data I got from the test should help me a ton next year.... we will see.
The Lactate test
The lactate test was much easier then I would have thought, here is how it generally went....
* 20-ish minute warm up on the bike
* start the test at 125 watts and ever 4 minutes take some blood from my finger, ask me what the RPE is and up the watts by 25
* continue this cycle until they see a large increase in LT which is pretty high but not max effort.
Afterwards my finger looked like a pin cushion.
Since I had already done the lactate test we could "cheat" and start at a much higher wattage which for me was 275 and from there every minute up the wattage by 25 until I cry uncle or fall off the bike. Luckily this process goes pretty fast. Then at the end they take blood, you spin for two minutes easy and they take blood again and then I was done!!
After the test was complete Neal Anderson consulted with me on the results and mentioned "not to worry, in your peak fitness you would be much higher", ahh, I am at peak Neal. His insight provided me with very clear training zones to take on 08 and a plan to come back in 6 months from now to take another meassurement (only lactate) to see how I am progressing.
