Are you tough enough?
We'll be the judge of that. The Breck Epic is a 6-day ultra-endurance mountain bike stage race held in the sprawling backcountry surrounding the Victorian mining town of Breckenridge, Colorado. After a 10-mile time-trial on day one athletes will contest 5 subsequent stages spending 4-8 hours on course each day, most of it over 10,000 feet. If the course were a person it would be dressed in black leather and brandishing something nasty, but it does have a tender side – proceeds from the inaugural “B.E.” benefit local open space initiatives and trail improvements. Hard-asses (or aspiring hard-asses) only please.
We've been asked over and over again how we'd describe our course "compared to The BC Bike Race or The Trans Rockies?" Our answer? Honestly, I don't know. If you want our take on it, head to "The Course" page - we've tried to honestly answer that question there.

This year's HalfAss is ONE BIG LOOP crossing the divide in our backyard twice with two additional high altitude passes. At 110mi, with an 80mi option, it will take you all day, but there are services in Empire and in WP if you opt for the additional 20 miles of single track near Fraser. >Ned to Empire to WinterPark to Fraser to Ned!!!< Don't worry though, at 20k' of climbing quite a bit of that is dirt road and even pavement (over Berthoud Pass) so there isn't much hiking at all. Being so long with so much elevation gain we also made navigating the route a lot simpler than it could have been ... everything is on the map!
Come come now, don't let those digits scar you, 10k in a day is for those sissy roadies who have masseuse, meals, and of all things 'victory signs' at the ready. There is much dirt road in this one and pavement too... most single track is in the downward direction!
See you at 5:30a.m. [6:00 start] Saturday Aug 29th at Happy Trails in Ned (it may no longer be the train but it is still the home of the Nedhead Dirt Club). We'll end at the 'piggy place' for beer (the BBQ joint).
Did you miss the Boulder 6 last year? Be sure to mark your calendar for August 28, 2010. The 2010 Boulder 6 promises to be a fast-paced and action-packed night of racing in the theme of a traditional European Six-Day. Tickets cost $45, and include food and beer. Tickets are only available by reserving them ahead of the event; there will be NO TICKETS sold at the door. Last year's event sold-out quickly so be sure to get your tickets as soon as they go on sale. The Boulder 6 is brought to you in part by the 2010 Rocky Mountain Bicycle Festival, and of course: Boulder Indoor Cycling. See you there!
This year, Boulder Indoor Cycling needs YOUR HELP in making this event a success. For details please see the article below.
