Erie Colorado approves new Velodrome
Submitted by Kris Thompson on
Erie Colorado just approved the constuction of a 250 meter velodrome at intersection of Bonnell Avenue and County Line Road. This outdoor facility will be open year round, built by Olympic standards and could be open as early as the spring of 2011! The group leading this effort is boneshaker LLC and partner Doug Emerson. If I have my names correct, Doug Emerson is also the owner of University Bikes and has been a long time supporter of track riding.

The velodrome will feature a 2,000-square-foot, two-story club house and a 107-space parking lot. The track, which will operate from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., will have lights for night riding. Even though this area just recently received our first velodrome (Boulder Velodrome), the owner of it, Steven Herzfeld, said he sees the Boulder Valley Velodrome as complementary to his own 142-meter indoor track on Frontier Avenue. (hey Steven, when did ownership change hands? Congrats BTW!)

That's great news. I hope

That's great news. I hope they have the financial resources to back up Erie's approval so they can get started right away. A new 250m outdoor is certainly cool.

I really hope this happens.

I really hope this happens. Seems like this Erie track idea has been floating for several years now, but has never materialized. 250 meters is a much better distance than the Boulder track.

Membership Fee

I have heard that there will be a membership fee to use the track. Is it going to be a minimal yearly membership fee like Boulder Indoor Cycling or is it going to be more exclusive? Does anyone know anything about this?
