About 200 cycling and Chris Romer fans showed up Wednesday night at The Great Divide Brewery in downtown Denver to support his bid to become the next Denver Mayor. As a Denver native and cycling enthusiast, he is passionate about Denver becoming the most bike friendly city in the country.
Romer shared recent stories about racing at the Leadville 100 and Bailey Hundo. The inaugural 2010 Bailey Hundo was organized as a partnership between four Colorado Senators—Senator Chris Romer, Senator Mark Scheffel, Senator Mike Kopp, and Senator Greg Brophy, as well as the Platte Canyon Chamber of Commerce and the Colorado Mountain Biking Association (COMBA).
Before and after Romer's speech, supporters had an opportunity to drink some tasty beer and rub shoulders some of the mountain biking world’s best, including:
Susan DeMattei – '96 Olympic bronze metal in Mountain Biking
Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski – Olympian, 9-time Natl. Champ., 1st Bailey Hundo Champion
Heather Irmiger - 2009 U.S. XC and Marathon National Champion
Dave Wiens - US National Mountain Bike Champion and multiple World-Cup winner
