Nothing against the race or the organizers, but the revised course was nowhere near as hard as the original. Much fewer riders dropped and relatively large fields hitting the wall together for the uphill drag race.
First priority is safety, and the organizers did a great job on that and did the best they could for the race, given the circumstances. But a lot of riders had surprisingly fresh legs at the finish, and that would never happen on the original.
35+ Categories need to go away. Simple as that. Ride your cat if you are 36. If you are a 3 you are a 3 right? There isn't a problem of reaching field limits with 3s. 4s you might.
You can't put all your marbles in one bag (technology) and expect it to be working 100% of the time. There have been races on the front range were the camera has failed. Judges with with hand written record of the race did pretty good getting results at those races. CSU Oval crit collegiate A had that exact problem.
What spectators?
This was done to hopefully having the long course will increase the number of racers. It's been a few years since I did this race. I stopped when it went back to the short course with 3 round abouts per 1K lap.
This guy had a previous DUI in 1975. There needs to be a zero tolerance policy on DUI. You get convicted of a DUI, you are never be licensed to drive a car again. Ever. Car dealerships, both new and used, as well as private sellers should have to submit buyers to a background check to ensure the buyer doesn't have a DUI on record.
We're so fixated on saving lives in other legal arenas (read: GUN CONTROL), I don't know how we can as a society accept anything less than zero tolerance on DUI.
True, spectators will see fewer laps on the long course but if they go to the 2nd median they can see racers go by twice per lap, and that could make for some interesting spectating in itself depending on breaks and race dynamics.
Fed Center had long(er?) laps like this, and the spectators got creative there too by going to places where the course passed the same location a few times per lap. Perhaps we can have the announcer let people know that they can see more from certain spots on the course.
But in the end, who to please? Spectators or racers? Hopefully we please the racers.
Merged with 1-2. Again, this was due to schedule constraints. We COULD have run it on the short course later in the day, but many felt that the 35+1-2s would rather race the long course with the 1-2s than they would want to race on the short course later in the day.
Again, apologies that we can't somehow do better with the schedule that we had to work with. Maybe jumping in with the 1-2 field on the long course will be a cool way to test the legs.
Have a real Cat 2 race some time. Like at S/M. That would have been nice. All 2s can have a race without pros. Not just 35+ having that opportunity.
35+ 1,2,3 should go away. Make them ride their cat.
