Rocky Mountain Greenway Trail gets Funding and Ribbon cutting

Today U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood along with Govenor John Hickenlooper joined celebrated at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal the ribbon cutting ceremony of the new Rocky Mountain Greenway trail and it's boost of nearly 2 million dollars to get things rolling. The new 7 mile trail will connect Arvada to Rocky Flats.

COMMERCE CITY, Colo.—Colorado is getting $2.2 million in federal funds to pay for a new trail link in a Denver-area network, and to improve access to Rocky Mountain National Park and Chimney Rock National Monument.
U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced the grants Monday during a visit to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge outside Denver.
Most of the money, $1.7 million, will pay for a new trail link in the Rocky Mountain Greenway. The proposed trail and open space network will eventually connect hundreds of trails in the Denver area and provide access between three wildlife refuges —Rocky Mountain Arsenal, Rocky Flats and Two Ponds—as well as Rocky Mountain National Park and community trail systems.

Colorado bicyclists at the announcement

Thanks to the bicyclists that attended the announcement at the invitation of U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Ray LaHood.
Represented were: Rocky Mountain Cycling Club, IMBA, elementary student alumni of Safe Routes to School (including the national award winning school, Heatherwood elementary) and their parents, Bicycle Colorado and a professional Safe Routes to School educator.

RM Arsenal Lack of Bike Access

I am big fan of trails and would love to see more.
However, don't you find it ironic that you can bike on a trail to the Arsenal and the you have to get off your bike?
Bikes are not allowed in the arsenal. Even on the paved streets.

I don't recall seeing any signs about no bikes on the paved streets but I'm not surprised that there are no single track trails as it has a big focus on wildlife. I don't support that.
