Author, Cheri Felix rides Fruita
A lot goes into this. And by this I mean the mountain biker part of me cause even when the weather isn’t a mountain bikers dream come true (unless you have a fatty) I’m thinking and I’m scheming and I’m dreaming. When to go to Fruita. Is this year I do a mountain bike skills camp? What will be my next helmet and will my new bike love me as much I am sure to love it. So much goes into this life and don’t even get me started on my main gig. The true love of my life; taking care of my three kids and family.
So, I thought I’d share a few of my favorite things this week (yes, I borrowed that from Oprah). So these things are on my short list and no, no one asked to be on this list. This is all my own crazy.
Skratch Labs hydration mix: Hands down, my fav after ride drink and let’s be honest, sometimes I just boost myself with a pack and some water while driving the three kids to and fro. Now I’m not going to pretend to know the science behind it but I will tell you one thing; it works. In all my years of going to Fruita I routinely come back dehydrated. It might have something to do with the heat, the long hours in the saddle, the beer and the late nights chatting cheek to cheek with my best friends. Last trip I intentionally drank a water bottle with Skratch after every ride (before beer) and it worked. Not sure how, not sure why. I just know I heart Skratch.
Leg Lube: Now, I’ve had a slightly unnatural interest in men’s shiny and shaven legs. I am mesmerized by anyone who chooses to do the one thing that most of us women would be happy to never do again. So that interest (read: obsession) led me to seek out via twitter and in person the local guy who started (he gives his wife tons of inspiration credit) Leg Lube. I’ve used it multiple times and like Skratch, there’s science behind it but do you really care? It works, it’s refreshing, it’s different and you can take it camping and you can carry it in your carry-on. It doesn’t take much. And hey, like Skratch, it’s local. I likey. Nuff said. Check it out.
Team ten20: Hmm..A bit o truth. I said I’d never join a team. It’s not that I don’t like people. I love people. I just didn’t know if it was for me and then something happened; Team ten20 came calling and asked me to be a coach for the mountain bikers. How could I say no? I couldn’t. If you are like me and use the word “never” sometimes, you might check out this super cool fabulous team. I’ve been to two socials and this is what I’m seeing so far; organization, inclusivity, energy and a whole bunch of women who will support you as you meet and beat your personal goals. Check it out. Let me know if you do.
My new 2013 Trek Lush 29er: I could say more but let me get it dirty first. In the meantime, the Trek store here in Boulder is transitioning. New ownership and new bikes! Trek plus Rocky Mountain and Ibis are awaiting your arrival.
Hope Hummus: What? You think I live on bars and gels? I found Hope Hummus this week. They are local and they are yummy and I am not ashamed to admit that I can eat a whole container of Green Chile Lime hummus all by myself. Local, yummy and they have hope. Something we can all use a bit more of.
