Boulder Food Share Rescue saves and delivers much of its food by bike. The rescue picks up perishables from local grocery stores and delivers them to family in need around town.
"You can bet every hour or two there is someone on a bike moving food," Dansky said.
Last week, Betsy Andrews, a Boulder Food Rescue volunteer since June, was using old bicycle inner tubes to batten down on a trailer boxes of produce and pastries that Ideal Market could no longer sell. Pamela Jaros-Helmstetter, associate team leader with Ideal, watched as Andrews carted away pints of aging strawberries, piles of cucumbers and a giant watermelon that otherwise would have gone to waste.
