From the Daily Camera

Today was Bike to School Day at Boulder Valley schools -- in celebration of Earth Week -- and organizers expected as many as 5,000 kids to jump out of cars and onto their bikes for their morning commutes.

"I think it's really great we're doing this," said fourth-grader Sophia Ottinger, who was still wearing her bike helmet while waiting in line for some treats after arriving at school. "When we were biking from home, there was a big truck and it was really stinky from gas."

Thursday is Walk or Bike to School Day!

News Item:

As we move into Springtime some schools across the Front Range are continuing to encourage children to tell their parents no to being driven to school and yes to walking or biking to school. Tomorrow, April 19th Boulder Valley School District is having their Walk or Bike to school Day. Our very own govenor of Colorado as shown strong support for getting gets out on their feet and bikes to get to school. Earlier this week the DenverPost ran an article about Lessons abound for parent and child on the bike ride to school which is about a parents experience of biking with their child to school nearly every day.

Take the time this spring and please participate in your child's Walk or Bike to school program and if your school doesn't have one, start it! Most likely your school district has resouces available to get started and if they are that lame that they don't the state & federal does and Bicycle Colorado can also help you out some as well.

Listen to what Allen has to say about this incident

Did you get a chance to enjoy any of Allen Lim's awesome rice cakes? No, that sucks because as of last Saturday Allen has been shutdown by the Boulder Police. I'm sure there was some law that was being broken yet somehow I find it hard to believe that this was the most serious law breaker at the time of day Saturday. Was it worth it? According to some comments on our Facebook page apparently if no money is exchanged than what he was doing is fine... at least for now until some new law comes into affect.'

I DID have a rice cake from Allen on Saturday before the Police and have to say this will be my food choice next week at the 66 mile Voodoo race in Pueblo CO. More on Allen Lim and Skratch Labs

Bicycle Colorado supports us while Boulder has no BRA

News Item:

I've been saying this for years, Boulder needs a BRA. Last night I attended the BMA spring fundraiser at Rembrandt Yards. Besides the fun, BMA does a lot for the mountain biking community in building trails, gaining access, working with officials on trail issues and enforcement and more. But where is Boulder's BRA for recreational road cyclists? Some have said it is not needed because road cyclists do not have the same issues that mountain bikers have, largely such as trail access.

Party on and support local cycling

The season of numerous fundraisers is about to come before us and for many organization this is one of their main opportunities to raise the much needed funding to operate without the primary director from getting out their own personal credit card! Some events are as casual as showing up to a restaurant and having meal or snack to near black tie sit down dinners. So this spring, round up a date or baby sitter or both and have a fun night out AND support one or many of these local cycling organizations.

Rocky Mountain Bike Festival moves to Superior Morgul Race Weekend

News Item:

Organizers of the Rocky Mountain Bicycle Festival and the Superior Morgul Weekend have announced an ongoing partnership to bring two of Colorado’s signature events together to create the most-exciting weekend on the state’s cycling calendar.

For the past four years, the Rocky Mountain Bicycle Festival has hosted the region’s largest gathering of custom framebuilders, component and accessory manufacturers, distributors, cycling service providers, and non-profits. “It’s been incredible to see this event grow, and to see the community come together around it. Finding a home in Superior and partnering with Without Limits/Boulder Racing will allow us to really grow this event and make it a staple on the national cycling calendar,” said event-owner Carol Johnson of Miles Ahead Events, Co.

The Rocky Mountain Bicycle Festival will take place in conjunction with the Downtown Criterium on May 19th. The three-day Superior Morgul features a Friday Evening Time Trial on May 18th, a downtown criterium on the 19th, and the famous Morgul Bismark Road Race on the 20th. A smaller expo will also be situated near the finish of the road race on Sunday to entertain race spectators.
