Boulder was ranked seventh on a list of the top places to visit in the U.S. in 2012 according a list compiled by travel guide Lonely Planet.

The list -- which was released on Dec. 20 -- put Boulder in the top 10 based on Boulder's outdoor recreation options.

According to the Lonely Planet website, "locals live with a mad crush on the outdoors, and adventure can be found at every turn."
