The Bikes Belong Coalition, located in Boulder, Colorado, seeks an energetic individual who will be responsible for managing the Bikes Belong Grant Programs, while providing program direction and strategic advice for the Bikes Belong partner organizations.
This position encompasses the following responsibilities and duties:
Ø Manages and administers the Bikes Belong Coalition & Foundation Grant programs including the core Bikes Belong Grants Program, REI / Bicycle Friendly Communities (BFC) Grants, and Paul David Clark Safety and Best Practices Grants programs
Ø Receives, reviews, researches and evaluates all grant applications
Ø Corresponds with applicants for further information / clarification
Ø Selects application finalists to present to the grants committee; write grant briefs on each finalist for the committee; and assess government/political connections for these finalists
Ø Works with BFC review committee to pinpoint key cities/ advocacy groups to invite to participate in the REI Grants Program
Ø Collaborates with REI and League of American Bicyclists to direct the REI / BFC Grant program
Ø Assembles online grant packages for committee members, including matrix / scoring materials
Ø Coordinates and leads Grant Committee meetings to complete grant approval process
Ø Writes and sends committee decision brief to board members for feedback
Ø Writes grant award and grant rejection letters to all applicants
Ø Responsible for writing Grants E-Newsletter and submitting contributions for the Bikes Belong Newsletter, email blasts, social media, and blogs.
Ø Collaborates with Bikes Belong Team to research, identify, and write grant applications to secure funding for the Bikes Belong Foundation
Ø Oversees and manages the Bikes Belong / Interbike host city grants project including writing of project scope, working with local groups, and documenting progress to meet the expectations of the Interbike staff.
Ø Writes press releases and works with grantees and the Government Affairs Director to coordinate ribbon cuttings or award ceremonies and participate (representing Bikes Belong in a positive manner) when necessary
Ø Creates and issues Grant progress reports. (Work with Grantees to measure impact and collect content, images, media coverage, and quantifiable data).
Ø Partners with Research Analyst to measure program success and quantify return on investment in bike facilities and programs
Ø Maintains database of Bikes Belong Grant award winners
Ø Compiles reports highlighting program progress and impact for all grants for Foundation and Coalition Boards.
Ø Serves as Bikes Belong representative on the Advocacy Advance Innovation Grant Committee and Advisory Group
Ø Other duties as assigned
Ø Maintains positive attitude and contributes to the success of the organization by leading or assisting with projects and tasks as needed
Ø Bachelor's degree
Ø 1-3 years experience working with grants and contract proposals and processing
Ø Understanding of business and management principles involved in strategic planning and resource allocation
Ø Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ø Desire to advance in non-profit leadership
Ø Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Filemaker
Ø Good interpersonal skills and able to cooperate and communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisor and outside contacts
Ø Strong organizational skills
Ø Team-oriented and able to accept ideas and strategic input from other individuals
Ø Work well under pressure
Ø Attentive to detail
Ø Self-directed and able to carry out assignments without supervision
Ø Willing to travel when necessary
Ø Enthusiasm for bicycling in all its forms
Ø Direct experience in the bicycling or outdoor industry highly desirable
Ø Working knowledge of HTML
Ø Experience working with corporations, local communities, foundations
About Bikes Belong Coalition:
Bikes Belong is sponsored by the U.S. bicycle industry with the goal of putting more people on bicycles more often. We have nearly 400 members-bicycle suppliers and retailers combining resources to improve bicycling in America. From helping create safe places to ride to promoting bicycling, we carefully select projects and partnerships that have the capacity to make a positive difference. We also operate an affiliated organization, the Bikes Belong Foundation, which works to encourage more children to ride bikes, and make bicycling safer. The Foundation also reaches out to individuals to support cycling via a grassroots campaign aimed at gathering a million names, called peopleforbikes.org.
Salary is in the mid $40,000's, excluding the value of the benefits package. Our benefits package is excellent, which includes health and long-term disability insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, and generous vacation time. This position is located in downtown Boulder, Colorado.
