Boulder, CO – April 11, 2016 – Thousands of fun-loving cyclists in Boulder, Denver, Minneapolis, and Des Moines will soon have the opportunity to take on the one-and-only Urban Assault Ride. Now in its 12th season, the “UAR” sends teams of two riders to checkpoints all over the city, where they take on crazy physical and mental obstacles at each stop. Riders cap off their adventure at a huge after party with craft beer, great music, and contests. The Urban Assault Ride kicks off the season in Boulder on June 19 before moving on to Denver (June 26), Minneapolis (August 7), and Des Moines (August 14).

The Urban Assault Ride is the only bicycle obstacle event series in the nation. Its unique format, which is part bike ride, part obstacle race, and part scavenger hunt is part of the allure of the event, which has gained a cult-like following since it debuted Austin in 2003.

UARHere’s how it works: Teams of two plan their own route to seven pre-determined checkpoints around the city. At each checkpoint, they complete an obstacle. Obstacles change from year-to-year and city-to-city, but might include favorites such as adult big wheels, the ‘paper boy’ challenge, ‘human slingshot’, diving for beer cans, and more. The first team to hit all the checkpoints, complete the obstacles, and cross the finish line wins. The UAR is followed by a huge after party with plenty of craft beer, contests, and a legendary raffle. This year’s sponsors include Keen Footwear, New Belgium Brewing, Great Divide Brewing, Surly Brewing, and Upslope Brewing.

While the event is big on fun, it was designed with the mission to promote bikes as a means of transportation. The Urban Assault Ride aims to provide cyclists with an adventurous opportunity to learn safe cycling routes around town. The motto is “grab your bike lock, instead of your car keys for short trips around town”. Past p
articipants are excited when they realize they learned safe and efficient bike routes around their city during their Urban Assault Ride experience.

“We are super excited to bring the Urban Assault Ride to the cities on this year’s schedule.” Explains Josh Kravetz, president of Adventure Fit, the company that produces the event. “Each UAR city has a passionate bike culture, and like our team, they live and breathe adventure, beer, and bikes. This event brings it all home. The Urban Assault Ride’s mission is to get more people on bikes more often, and our unorthodox method works. It yields a long-lasting impact that we are really proud of.”

Each event will be capped at 2000 riders, and registration is open at www.urbanassaultride.com.
