Stages® Cycling Hires Power Education Specialist

Former USA Cycling coach and program director, Benjamin Sharp, joins Stages staff to offer additional resources to Stages teams and partners

BOULDER, CO, March 27, 2014—Stages® Cycling is pleased to announce that former USA Cycling coach, manager and program director, Benjamin Sharp has joined the staff in a newly formed educational role. Sharp will create content and provide support to Stages sponsored teams as well as dealer partners and coaches.

“We’ve had a phenomenal first year, in regards to the growth of our business and adoption of our product,” said Stages VP, Pat Warner. “From our very first launch event, however, it was apparent that there is an underlying need for additional education within the category. Benjamin is perfect for this role; his experience coaching world class athletes gives him the tools to dig deep into data with our professional athletes, while his formal degree in education gives him the ability to break it down for the rider and dealer who’ve never used or sold power before.”

Prior to joining the Stages Cycling team, Sharp spent seven years working with athletes for USA Cycling. Under Sharp’s guidance riders racing for various national programs won 13 World Championships, and stood on eight additional World Championship podiums.

“This change brings me closer to my roots as an educator and allows me the opportunity to share my passion for coaching with those that might not typically have access or contact to a coach,” said Sharp. “Conversely working with programs like Team Sky will challenge me to stay on the cutting edge of data analysis and training technique.”

As a crowning achievement, Sharp was involved in coaching the US women’s pursuit team, which took the silver medal at the London Olympic Games in 2012.

“My role at Stages will be very dynamic, but I’m looking forward to using the skills I learned as an educator to help bring the ‘power metric to every rider’ and up our support to those that are already riding with Stages Power,” said Sharp.

Before his time at USA Cycling, Sharp coached and managed operations for, Cadence Cycling and Multisport, one of the pioneering shops in the domestic retail-coaching market.
