Golden's Tuesday Night Cruise comes to life

by Katie Macarelli

This summer, the City of Golden takes on the fantastically famous Tuesday Night Cruise, held the last Tuesday of every month: April-October. That's right. OCTOBER. Traditionally, it started at Woody's amongst a handful of friends years ago and quickly grew into regular groups in the hundreds.

Golden City Council Member Marcie Miller

Here's what City Council Member Marcie Miller had to say about the newly acquired event:

"The Cruise had become such a popular community event that it outgrew the Woody's parking lot. The owner of Woody's just felt like it was becoming bigger than he wanted to manage - he is really in the restaurant biz, not the bike ride biz, so we understood! Plus, there was growing concern about the safety of the riders when 300+ bikes were tooling down Washington without any street closures or parade permits."

Mike Helms, the Woody's general manager, and I both love this event so much that we decided to take it on under the sponsorship of the Civic Foundation and not let it fade away. For the Civic Foundation, it's a way to let the next generation know who we are. We think that allowing the nonprofits that already receive grants from us to share in the proceeds of this family friendly event is a great way to do that.

We (the Golden Civic Foundation) are the hosts. The non-profit organizations are the beneficiaries. Each
month there will be a different beneficiary non-profit who provides 20 or so volunteers in exchange for 1/2 the beer sales. Once again, the New Belgium Brewing Company will be serving up their fabulous Fat Tire Amber Ale plus a wonderful summer surprise beer.

High Road Bluegrass Band, the same great band that we've enjoyed for the past couple of summers has signed on again to provide terrific music all summer and into the Fall.

This is a great chance to support all the fine folks doing wonderful things in our town, so grab your kids and some friends and join us on the last Tuesday of the month through October. Come enjoy the city by BIKE!"
