Fort Collins bike builders hit handmade bike show

They are the unsung heroes of the bike world. The guys who sit quietly behind their workbench taking a backseat to the athletes in the spotlight who perform jumps, flips and tricks. But without them the bike world wouldn’t be the same.

They are the bike builders, and next weekend is dedicated to them.

Friday, the nation’s bicycle building community will converge on Denver for the North American Handmade Bicycle Show, or NAHBS, and Fort Collins’ bike builders will be in attendance.

The show started in Houston in 2005, with 23 exhibitors and 700 attendees as a showcase of bike frame builders and a sharing of ideas around the two-wheeled work of art.

Over the years, the show has grown and changed to include 174 exhibitors and 8,100 attendees in 2012. This year the event lands in Denver with nearly 160 exhibitors, 30 from Colorado. The core mission of shining a light on the builder remains the same.

Fort Collins exhibitors at NAHBS this weekend include Black Sheep Bikes, Boo Bicycles, YiPsan Bicycles and Cantitoe Road.
