2012 - High School Cycling Team in the Thornton and Northglenn

A new High School Cycling Team in the Thornton and Northglenn area is being organized in 2012 through the Colorado High School Cycling League, http://www.coloradomtb.org/ . The team, which will accept students from Thornton, Northglenn, Horizon and Mountain Range High schools, will be holding an informational meeting for interested students, parents, teachers, school administrators, coaches and ride leaders. The meeting will be held on January 23 rd , 2012, @ 6:30pm, at the Northglenn Recreation Center located at 11801 Community Center Drive, Northglenn, CO 80233, in the Mountain View Room.

The team, which will be called the Northern Colorado Greyhounds, hopes to attract students who may not be interested in main stream sports and provide an additional avenue for fitness. James Flanagan, the head coach for the new team, said: I think this is a huge benefit and an additional source of activity for students and I am excited to be presenting this opportunity for 2012. Students and parents really seem to be supportive of the idea of interscholastic cycling. The team will be a COED team and we will start training practices in April of 2012. The season will culminate with a series of four cross country mountain bike races against students from other Colorado high schools.

2012 - 40 in the Fort Mountain Bike Race

40 in the Fort - Postponed

June 25, 2012

After much discussion, Overland Mountain Bike Club will postpone the 2nd annual 40 in the Fort mountain bike endurance race due to the High Park fire.

This has not been an easy decision to make, but at this time, we feel it is in the best interest of our volunteers, our racers and the community at-large to move the race to our back-up date of September 15.

We would like to thank our sponsors, Poudre Valley Hospital, Green Team Real Estate, ProVelo Bikes, Niner Bikes, Lee's Cyclery and Full Cycle for supporting this decision.

We would also like to thank Lory State Park and Larimer County for their efforts and guidance. We know these past few weeks have put an extra strain on them.

Why did we make this decision?
- Both Horsetooth Mountain and Lory State Park remain closed. Access to these parks may or may not be available depending on the behavior of the fire.
- The fire will still be burning on July 7 without Mother Nature stepping in. Even if the fire continues to burn farther west, a shift in winds could create an unhealthy environment for everyone involved on race day.
- We are two weeks out from the event. Everyone involved needs to have time to update/change plans as needed.
