    RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Associate Director of Athletics, the Head Coach is responsible for the coaching of the University’s club cycling team within the guidelines of the NCAA, RMAC, USA Cycling, and Colorado Mesa University. Includes all aspects of a collegiate cycling program: recruiting, scouting, budgeting, planning, organizing, scheduling, monitoring academic performance and promoting intercollegiate athletics.

    The Head Coach’s essential duties and responsibilities include:
    - Oversee cycling program. This includes scouting, and recruitment of student athletes, training student athletes and coaching them at races, monitoring academic progress of athletes, scheduling races, ensuring compliance with NCCA conference rules or regulations and eligibility of players.
    - Supervise and participate in the recruitment of student athletes. This includes interviewing, screening,
    assessment/evaluation, and meeting with coaches, counselors, principals, teachers and parents to facilitate the process.
    - Plan and manage team travel such as time schedules, transportation by bus/vans, lodging accommodations, meal and
    accommodations, insurance coverage and schedules for races and practice. Ensure travel arrangements are within budget constraints and are safe for the players’ and coaches’ welfare.
    - Supervise and manage the inventory of sports equipment. This involves the selection and purchase, reconditioning, checking standards and ensuring safety and accountability of physical assets.
    - Oversee the budget for the program. Monitor and approve expenditures for area of responsibility.
    - Supervise and manage the facility to facilitate practice. Coordinate the facility arrangements, ensure safety of equipment and practice areas, and secure facilities at end of practices.
    - Plan, organize and participate in practice and races. This involves athlete conditioning, planning sets, oversight of practices, review current rules and regulations, and participate in media coverage of events.
    - Actively plan and participate with the Athletic Director, the Development Director, and/or the Alumni Director in
    fundraising activities.
    - Work in liaison with community groups to encourage and foster their participation in the athletic activities or events.
    - Speak at promotional events such as sports banquets and community events.
    - Serve on committees as deemed appropriate for district, conference or national level.
    - Work in liaison with faculty, administrators, and staff to coordinate academic and athletic efforts and to share resources and ideas.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
    - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.
    - Previous coaching and/or cycling at a competitive level is required.
    - Experience managing team budget and fundraising is preferred.
    - A commitment to drug-free athletic competition is required.
    - Experience coaching at the college or university level is desirable.
    - Proven successful recruiting of quality student athletes is desirable.
