After more than 10 years at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU) Research Park, the CU Cycling Club is partnering with the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation to host their annual CU Short Track Series at the Valmont Bike Park.

The Short Track Series will begin on Wednesday, May 22, and run every Wednesday afternoon through Aug.14, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Valmont Bike Park, located at Valmont and Airport roads.

CU Cycling is encouraging all participants to ride their bikes to the event as they did in the past at the CU Research Park. Additional information on the race series including costs, waivers, registration, and parking instructions can be found

online at CU Cycling Short Track Series.

CU Cycling will also be collaborating with the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation's EXPAND (EXciting Programs Adventures and New Dimensions) program. EXPAND offers a variety of sport and recreation activities for people with physical disabilities and will be offering at least two race opportunities at the CU Short Track Series for adaptive cyclists.

“Allowing the disabled to safely participate in mountain biking, which was once only an able-bodied sport, has opened another door for disabled people who’ve wished they could still do a sport they enjoyed. Disabled runners and skiers have adaptive options for competitions, and now disabled mountain bikers do as well,” said adaptive athlete Dan Marshall. “I’m excited to come alongside the CU Cycling Team as a summer Short Track participant and say, ‘wow, I can do that too!’"

The CU Short Track Series is known as one of Boulder's best cycling events due to its simple, family-friendly atmosphere. This local race series has historically attracted mountain bikers of all ages and abilities, from the weekend warrior to the local cycling professionals that call Boulder home.

Kris Thompson of said that the CU Series is “hands down my favorite! The event is short, mid week, low pressure but still competitive if you are that way. Awesome kids race.”

“CU Cycling's Summer Short Track series has become a staple in Boulder's cycling community, said Danny Hiller, president of the CU Cycling Team. “Not only is it the club's largest fundraiser, it is a grassroots, family-friendly event that is just plain fun. With the recent construction at the CU Research Park, we have decided to make Short Track bigger and better than ever by hosting it at the Valmont Bike Park. We are excited to be working with the City of Boulder and are looking forward to seeing everybody at the races!”

“We’re pleased to partner with CU to provide another option of mountain biking to youth and adults at Valmont Bike Park,” said Callie Hayden, City of Boulder Parks and Recreation facilities supervisor at Valmont City Park. “The event is free to watch and also free for juniors to race. This series is a perfect fit for Valmont Bike Park’s commitment to providing exciting opportunities for families to have fun and stay fit.”
