Professional triathlete Mark Fretta of Colorado Springs has been banned for 4 years by the United States Anti-Doping Agency.
According to the USADA press release, Fretta's blood profile " indicated the use of Erythropoiesis-Stimulating Agents such as Erythropoietin (“EPO”)." Erythropoiesis-Stimulating Agents are on the World Anti-Doping Agency's list of banned substances. Fretta's suspension started back in June, and all his results since August 18th of 2010 have been removed.
A decorated swimmer and cross country runner at Holy Cross College in Massachusetts, Fretta moved to the Springs after college where he trained at the US Olympic Center. He is one of only two Americans to hold a #1 ITU ranking which he achieved in 2006.
