OZ Road Race: Notes from the WOL A-Team

Dear Colorado Cyclists,

This is the weekend we’ve been looking forward to since December, the launch of the brand new OZ Road Race! You’re not in Kansas anymore Toto. Please note that pre-registration closes Wednesday May 4th at midnight. There is RACE DAY REGISTRATION, which closes 40min prior to your race. Please also take a look at the important and most recent course notes below! We’re also still looking for 3 more course marshalls, so if you have a loved one or friend spectating we could use their help, and you’ll receive their $40 credit.

DISCOUNTED ENTRY FOR COURSE MARSHALL: This Saturday is the OZ Road Race and we’re still looking for a few more course marshalls. We know that it’s virtually impossible to race and volunteer, but if you have support crew or a friend/significant other that would like to help out please let us know ASAP. They will earn YOU a $40 credit to use towards either OZ or a future race. To sign up please e-mail Gaby@withoutlimits.com

We look forward to seeing you on the start line,
Lance, Tony, Barry, Gaby, Lindsey, and the Without Limits A-Team

The OZ Road Race Course Notes

Please be sure to review the course map below. For those doing 1 lap the course is very easy, for those doing 2 or 3 laps you’re responsible for knowing the course route.

Laps: If you’re racing the 2 or 3 lap course please note that when you finish lap 1 you’ll stay on the red path and will NOT come all the way back into the airport. You will only take the blue path at the start and at the end of your final lap. It won’t be easy for the police and marshalls at that corner to know what lap you’re on, so communicate with the group and people on course.

Dirt: There is a 1 mile section of dirt on this course (Imboden road just north of airport). It’s not as smooth as Buff Gold, but not as rough as Koppenberg. Pick a good line and be aware of this for tire choice and pressure.

88th: We know there’s some good holes on E 88th (top of course) which we will be patching later this week, so the rest of the paved sections will be in good shape.

Train Tracks: There’s two train track crossings on the south end of the course. Crossing on a bike isn’t the issue (smooth), but be aware that thanks to the Patriot Act the train company will not release it’s schedule to the county or state patrol due to terrorism threats. We’ve scouted the weekends and haven’t seen a crossing yet, but just like the Tour de France if a train is coming remember that the train wins every time versus a biker.

Parking: In the morning please take Imboden rd towards the Airport and then follow our parking crew to the staging area. Everything is very nice and close.

Pre-registration: Just because you’re pre-registered doesn’t mean you can roll up 5 min before your start time and grab your number. Number pick-up closes 40min before your start.

Center line rule: We’ll keep this simple – we don’t care if you won a stage in the Tour de France or if you’re some new “pro” from California, if you cross the center line you’re DQ-ed. If you complain to a referee like a spoiled child you’re still DQ-ed and then we’ll recommend you’re put on suspension.
