Colorado Bicycle Summit stirs conversation about economics, advocacy

So excited for the 2013 Bicycle Colorado Summit on Feb. 11-12 as I will get to spend time with Colorado's leaders in cycling cover all aspects of the sport/transportation allowing myself and others to grow and come up with strategies to improve bicycling in Colorado. Below is some more information on the summit and more on their keynote speaker, Mia Birk, who she alone is worth spending the time and money to watch!

Denver (January 9, 2013)—The third-annual Colorado Bicycle Summit will bring together bicycling advocates, industry leaders, bicyclists and elected officials and agency staff on Feb. 11 and 12 to build strategies to improve bicycling in Colorado.

“Bicyclists are becoming more involved and understand that state and local decisions play a big role in cycling conditions in Colorado,” said Dan Grunig, Bicycle Colorado executive director. “The summit sold out in 2011 and 2012, and we expect a big turnout again this year.”

Colorado Bicycle Summit Speakers

  • Mia Birk of Alta Planning + Design, a renowned bike advocate will talk about her work to transform Portland into one of the country’s most bicycle-friendly cities.
  • John Desmond of the Downtown Denver Partnership will present on Copenhagen’s bike culture and infrastructure.
  • Governor John Hickenlooper is scheduled to give the official welcome to summit attendees.

  • How to Influence City Designs for Better Bicycling
  • Working Within and Across Counties for Better Bicycling
  • Safe Routes to School (I'll be a speaker on this one!)
  • Engaging Youth in Cycling
  • Gateway to Active Living Through Mountain Biking
  • Building the Silicon Valley of the Bicycle and Outdoor Industry in Colorado

    Attendees will also receive advocacy training for bicycle-related issues on the 2013 Colorado legislative agenda, followed by a morning at the Capitol building meeting with state elected officials on Feb. 12.
