I want to start cross racing this season. I am not sure what the back to the basics cyclocross is? Is it a race or some kind of practice? What level would a new person be, Cat 5?

All that and MORE!

Back to Basics is a low-key, mid-week race. The first one on Weds. was a smashing success. Many people use it as a mid-week interval workout, race practice, to test new gear, etc. I found it to be the perfect way to jump into cross a few years back. Everyone is pretty friendly, as the stakes are low. Great group of racers, families, volunteers and a fantastic course courtesy of Feedback Sports, Lee Waldman, Paul McCarthy (of Cross Propz) and many others who will work to maintain it this season.

I'd suggest getting there EARLY (as early as you can for a work-day) so you don't miss your start time. Parking fills up in a hurry, but extends all the way down the road.

*There is a clinic going on at Boulder Cycle Sport this upcoming Tuesday evening for beginners. Check it out: http://www.bouldercyclesport.com/cyclocross-for-beginners-your-first-race/

Good luck!

Too much of a good thing!

While we all want to get out and race in the mud, we need to protect our resources for future use.

After speaking with our chief official, promoter, sponsor, and course designer, tonight's race must be cancelled to protect the venue from bike and car traffic. The south part of Golden has received 3+ inches of rain in the last two days, and the soil is completely saturated. We use this venue up to 8 times each season, and cannot risk significant damage to the course, parking area and entrance road by holding a race tonight.

See you next week!

The Finale is Almost Ready

Some hard work has gone into this course over the last few days. I rode it on Sunday with our kids. Already different today with some fun twists and hills in preparation for tomorrow's finale. Great job to Lee Waldman, the Feedback Sports crew and all the volunteers for a wonderful 2013 Back 2 Basics season. You kept it fresh and fun each week!
