Location: Gunnison/Crested Butte, CO
The West Elk Bicycle Classic is an annual fundraiser for Western State College of Colorado Cycling Team September 2. It is a gran fondo style timed road race/tour from Gunnison to Crested Butte, CO circumscribing the West Elk mountains. There is either a 130 mi or 100 mi option with nearly 9700' of climbing. The first 110 miles will be beautiful black top. Then as you climb Kebler pass the road turns to a smooth dirt road making it truly a classic ride. The short descent back into Crested Butte is partially paved. The finish in Crested Butte will include a meal and who knows what the Crazy Crested Buttians will do... beer, lupper, raffle, medals for all finishers and prizes for top finishers. This is going to be a truly classic ride on great roads and two killer towns in the heart of Colorado. Don't miss the first one!
