Todd Robertson - 15-Month Doping Suspension

This just in. Trying to get more information but it looks like a local master rider has been caught doping. This is form the USADA website:

US Cycling Athlete Accepts Sanction For Anti-Doping Rule Violation

March 30, 2012
USADA announced today that Todd Robertson of Boulder, Colo., an athlete in the sport of cycling, has accepted a 15 month suspension for an anti-doping rule violation and his competitive results from November 1, 2009, have been disqualified.

Robertson, 49, tested positive for a banned oxygen-enhancing peptide hormone as the result of a sample collected as part of USADA’s Out of Competition Testing Program on February 11, 2011. Oxygen-Enhancing Peptide Hormones are prohibited under the USADA Protocol for Olympic and Paralympic Movement Testing and the International Cycling Union (UCI) Anti-Doping Rules, both of which have adopted the World Anti-Doping Code.

Robertson’s 15 month period of ineligibility was reduced from the standard two-year period based on his providing Substantial Assistance under article 10.5.3 of the World Anti-Doping Code. Robertson began serving his sanction on February 14, 2011, while continuing to cooperate with USADA. As a result of the sanction, Robertson is also disqualified from all competitive results obtained on or subsequent to November 1, 2009, the date of his first use according to his admissions during the course of USADA’s investigation, including forfeiture of any medals, points, and prizes.

In an effort to aid athletes, as well as all support team members such as parents and coaches, in understanding the rules applicable to them, USADA provides comprehensive instruction on its website on the testing process and prohibited substances, how to obtain permission to use a necessary medication, and the risks and dangers of taking supplements as well as performance-enhancing and recreational drugs. In addition, the agency manages a drug reference hotline, Drug Reference Online (www.GlobalDRO.com), conducts educational sessions with National Governing Bodies and their athletes, and proactively distributes a multitude of educational materials, such as the Prohibited List, easy-reference wallet cards, periodic newsletters, and protocol and policy reference documentation.

USADA is responsible for the testing and results management process for athletes in the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement, and is equally dedicated to preserving the integrity of sport through research initiatives and educational programs.

What is interesting is this poll we did in May 2011. Check out this comment

No way it was an 'accident'!

How can anyone believe TR doped by accident???? when was the last time there was a drug control for a cat 3 race???? Never! And he was nailed out of competition!!! USADA had his name on a list (probably provided by Joe Papp, but that is just a guess) and they targeted and busted him! There is NO possible way it was an accident.

"End of story. So unless you

"End of story. So unless you know for a fact that he was doping when he kicked all your asses in 2010, suck it up and admit the fact that perhaps he beat you all because he out-trains you and quite frankly might just be a better athlete."

No, it's not the end of the story. Did you not read that he admitted doping back to Nov 2009, you f**king dope? It's funny that the guy who talks about insecurities writes the longest post of everyone and also feels the need to slam liberals, while kissing Todd Robertson's ass. Your comment about over the counter supplements is even more evidence that you're either a Todd Robertson Ass-Clown, or Todd himself. Stop your bs for a second and think about what Todd might have done to reduce his sentence by 9 months. FYI - You don't turn in the clerk at Vitamin Cottage as part of a USADA sentence reduction, or turn in your coach for giving you Vitamin-C and get a reduction.

Really?????!!!!

He got caught in an OUT OF COMPETITION CONTROL! How many doping contols are there at local cat 3 races??? NONE! How many out of competition controls (ie, they got him at home) are there for cat 3s doping??? Absolutlely NONE. They knew he was doing it, they targeted him, and they got him. Get your head out of your butt and stop being naive

dope

i hope to see him race this year.i would like to see him prove everyone wrong and train his pussy off and win some races for real. not sure how everyone is going to like him in the field. not only does the doper benefit him but he can also impact other racers grabbing his wheel. glad he got canned but happy to see him on strava killing it just like all of us. todd robertson pisses excellence.

Seriously.

My gosh, you'd think this was all about Lance with these comments. You all are amateur (and narcissistic) bike racers on local club teams with obviously too much time to spare. No one died. Move on, would you please?

I think a lot of the vitriol

I think a lot of the vitriol responses are based on the fact that cycling is a fairly closed-knit community. There's a lot of trust that goes into holding someones line, inches apart at high speeds, week in and week out. We all see each other at races and training rides, and many friendships are formed through this activity we all love. So when a person violates that trust, people respond in an emotional manner.

I am part of that community

...so I understand what's at stake and how hard we train to do well. I get it that trust is paramount and a sense of community is essential. But some of the comments here are simply ridiculous. This type of language and behavior is as detrimental to our sport as is the issue at hand.

Where are VeloNews and others?

Hasn't VeloNews, Cycling News, Velonation, etc. outed all of the other Master's dopers that were caught in the last couple of years for doing less than this? It seems like this guy got off really easy for admittedly doing a major drug for quite a long time. So he's going to only get 15 months, plus avoid the one week of public outing, which is really the only punishment these dopers get. Has this has just become so common that it's no longer newsworthy, or do you think they got sued by some rich old doper?
