We will begin issuing refund checks to all 2012 Deer Creek Challenge registrants immediately and we'll complete the process no later than Wednesday, October 31, 2012.
Has anyone received a refund check yet ???? or is this just another lie from Pat Downing?

Pat Downing has been promoted from Scheister Meister to Slim Shady.
Not so fast

I don't think P Downing ever set out to cheat anyone. I think he just found himself the victim of an ever-downward spiral of really stupid decisions and even more stupid public announcements regarding those decisions.
Makes you wonder if you just don't have to be all that smart to be an event promoter?
DCC Checks Received - An unfortunate mess
Submitted by Mark Donald (not verified) on
Received both of our refund checks (2 registered riders) - strangely one was sent Registered and the other not.
First - thanks to Downing for reversing the prior approach and agreeing to issue refunds. I hope that they recover from the ham-fisted handling of this mess, and that their other events don't feel too much impact.
I think Slim is probably right - a series of events that dominoed and were compounded by bad messaging. Personally, I would probably sign up for another Downing event, knowing that they (eventually) did the right thing and hopefuly learned better communication and event management.
While this is a local forum, the Facebook page comments pointed out that lots of folks from out of state were impacted even more than us locals - with several paying to travel from out of state for a big challenge. Hope those folks will come for another of our challenging rides.
Now if the Gran Fondo Vail folks could figure out how to get our Vail (not San Diego) jersies through customs some time this year......

As of today (11/23) I have not received my reimbursement check from the ride. My friend did so I think mine may have been lost in the mail. Could you please respond to me and let me know if a check has been issued as soon as possible. I don't know how to reach anyone associated with the ride.

As of 11/26/12 no refund received and no responses to any emails I have sent. I know snail mail is slow, but if they were issues 10/31/12....
Anyone have a clue as to next steps we need to take to get reimbursed?

This fiasco reflects negatively on all bike events but especially those in Colorado. I've received no refund or communication as of 12/1/2012. I've also tried to contact them through their former site with no reply. Resident of New Mexico.
I'd contact my credit card

I'd contact my credit card company, maybe they can get the charge reversed. Other than than, eh, who knows?

My husband and a few of his office mates signed up for this and not one of them have received their refund as of December 11th. Emails have been sent, no response. I am about to get my lawyer involved.
