2011 - Pedal to Paradise Gran Fondo

Supporting Youth Mentoring in Gunnison, Crested Butte and Lake City

Memorial Day weekend, Sunday, May 29th, 2011
7:15 am start time

This Gran Fondo is technically a Medio-Gran Fondo, which is a shorter version of the ever-popular Italian based Gran Fondo, a timed event, where thousands of cyclists take to the road to race or tour by bicycle, a scenic region in one day, over a course of at least 120 km. This is a very social event where one can make new friends and enjoy beautiful scenery, in this case here in the Gunnison Valley of Colorado (pictured below). The continental divide at the northern end of the Valley, beyond Crested Butte, is locally termed “Paradise Divide”, for its beauty and location of an extensive range of 13-14,000 ft mountains. The “Pedal to Paradise” route covers the end portion of the 1st Stage of this year’s first annual “Quiznos Pro Challenge”, a professional road race through the Colorado Rocky Mountains, which is attracting world-class riders such as those to be found in the Tour de France. The Quiznos segment finishes in Mt. Crested Butte at 9,400 ft elevation. The starting elevation in Gunnison for “Pedal to Paradise” is 7700 feet, and our turn around elevation is at 9900 feet.
