2011 Pedal for Nets

Aug. 14-17

Pedal for Nets is an annual charity bike ride along Colorado’s Front Range. The ride will take cyclists on a great 3 day, 160 mile loop through Longmont, Windsor, Estes Park before ending back in Longmont.

Why ride? Malaria is a deadly mosquito-borne disease that affects millions each year in Africa and around the world. Nearly one million people die from malaria each year, mostly children younger than five years old. Just one $12 insecticide-treated net can save three people from needless suffering or possible death from malaria.

Where do these ‘nets’ come from? NetsforLife® brings together corporations, foundations, faith-based organizations and private donors in a collaborative initiative focused on eliminating malaria in Africa. NetsforLife® is managed and monitored by Episcopal Relief & Development, (ERD) in 15 countries throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Distribution of nets and training programs are implemented by local Anglican dioceses, churches, and faith-based groups who have the ability to reach deep into the most remote areas where need is most critical. More than 11 million people have benefited from NetsforLife® to date.
