2010 Sunshine Hill Climb

Sunshine hill climb is a classic Boulder hill climb starting at the front door of the Boulder Sports Medicine and finishing in the historic town of Gold Hill. Previous courses had finished 2/3's of the way up where the asphalt ended but ever since the recent love of dirt courses this one has been extended a few miles farther to Gold Hill.

Favorite Sunshine HC Edition

This is one of my favorite race courses and my favorite edition was in 2005. That year the race was part of the Boulder Stage Race. The Excel Sports Ladies led by Ann Trombley were definitely the GC underdog to the T-Mobile juggernaut led by Mari Holden, it was an Olympic showdown on the roads of Boulder--MTB vs Roadie. Going into the Sunshine HC stage Ann was down by 1:06 to Mari and it wasn't looking good for the ladies in blue. However on that Sunday Ann unleashed the fire within and road away from Mari (and everyone else for that matter) and at the top of Sunshine she had turned her deficit into a 0:33 lead which earned her the stage and later the GC win. Interestingly enough this years edition takes place on the same day as in 2005, May 15th. Those were good times for women's racing in Colorado and hopefully the May 15th mojo will make this years race just as exciting.
