Vail SuperFondo "Cancelled"

Can an event be "canceled" if it never really was?
BOULDER, CO USA (April 21, 2010) SuperFondo™ USA announces today that the company is canceling SuperCorsa™ Vail, the competitive race version of its GranFondo. SuperFondo™ USA is also raising the caution flag for GranFondo Vail while the company finalizes its strategic relations.

WTF?

Can 303 cycling please let us know what the deal is with these events? (like are they going to happen?) I'm thinking there might be a language/cultural barrier. That Vail event was expensive but looked too cool to miss. The info is on a bunch of circularly-linked websites/blogs and does not make sense to me.

We will reach out to the promoter and see what information we can gather. We have seen the same thing with the information on the web site.

I actually went and rode the event, but received an email a few days before saying "the jerseys you will receive as part of your race packet were detained in customs". I was to get the jersey in the mail. Never happened. Now, their website is gone from the internet. Anybody know what happened?
Looks like we're SOL

Here's the email I received from them after the event:
Dear Participants,
We regret to inform you that we received word from our timing company that results to the KOM and QOM were lost. They have provided you with a detailed letter on what went wrong regarding the KOM and QOM results. As an event we apologize for this failure to provide you with these results due to this lapse in technology.
To try and make it up to you we will be offering everyone an additional cycling jersey (once they arrive from customs) as well as a Cannondale Pro-Cycling team hat. We will also be offering everyone the opportunity to ride again next year for 50% off the registration fee so that you have another opportunity to ride for your KOM or QOM times.
Thank you for your understanding, please feel free to contact us with additional concerns.
Regards,
GranFondo Vail Team.
I also received a survey request within the last week.
Since so much time has passed since the event and the fact that their website is gone, I have to believe we won't be seeing our jerseys or discount for next year.
They must have used the ACA
